Specialist Speech and Language Therapist based in Altrincham
Ways to Access Therapy
Speech and Language Therapy in a setting where your child feels comfortable.
I’m based in Altrincham and provide independent Speech and Language Therapy for children and families across the surrounding areas.
Depending on your child’s needs, assessments and therapy can take place at home, school, nursery or preschool. Working with children in familiar surroundings can help them feel more relaxed and also gives me the opportunity to see how they communicate, interact, eat or drink as part of their everyday life.
Speech and language therapy at home
For most children, home is where they feel most comfortable. Home visits allow assessment and therapy to take place in a familiar, relaxed environment, which can be particularly helpful for younger children or those who may find an unfamiliar clinical setting difficult.
An initial assessment will usually take between one and two hours and may involve a combination of structured assessment, observation, play and conversation, depending on your child's age and individual needs.
For eating, drinking or swallowing concerns, being at home can also provide an opportunity to observe your child eating and drinking in their usual environment, using familiar foods, utensils and routines.
Following your appointment, I'll explain my findings and provide practical recommendations and, where appropriate, activities or strategies you can continue at home.

Speech and language therapy at nursery or presechool
Nursery and preschool are an important part of a young child's world, making them a useful setting for assessment and therapy.
Seeing your child in their nursery or preschool environment can help me understand how they communicate and interact away from home, including how they respond to adults, play alongside other children and manage everyday routines.
Where appropriate, I can work alongside nursery or preschool staff, providing practical strategies and recommendations they can use to support your child throughout their day. Working together also helps create consistency between therapy, nursery and home, so your child has opportunities to practice their developing skills in different situations.

Speech and language therapy at school
For school aged children, assessment and therapy can take place within their school where appropriate. School visits allow me to work with your child in a familiar setting while understanding how their communication or eating and drinking difficulties may affect them during the school day.
It can also help to minimise the amount of lesson time they miss, and stops you needing time off work for appointments. I will always provide detailed written and/or video feedback following sessions.
Where needed, I can liaise with teachers, SENCOs, teaching assistants, NHS Speech and Language Therapists and other professionals involved in your child's care. This joined approach can help ensure everyone understands your child's needs and is working towards the same goals.
